this book gets 5 stars。 automatically, no questions asked。 it took me a while to get into my this (greek class ifykyk) i’m not kidding when i say this is my favorite book in the entire world。 i work at a bookstore and recommend this to every customer。 if you’re questioning whether you should read this or not, read it。 especially during fall。 it’s the perfect fall book

Literally what。 It was good at parts but I got so bored for most of the book it was hard to get through。 Also it took like ten years for anything to actually happen?? Like we were halfway through the book when the plot started。 But whatever vibes are kinda cool if you ignore the MURDER

molka

this book changed my life not sure for the best or the worst tho

What did I just read? Why am I crying over the deranged characters that make up this book? I’m so confused。 Somebody please explain to me what I should be feeling。 Full review to come, I guess???

Richie

I liked that the characterization of everyone was largely attributed to their small quirks, or certain details, interactions。 And the incest。

Don’t just tell me everyone is infatuated with a person show me WHY。 The murder wasn’t even that interesting。 A bunch of drunk and high kids bludgeon a man to death。 Big whoop I have no sympathy for you。 And the conclusion?? Let me just list what happened to everyone and call it a day。 Ugh。 。。。more

not as self-aware as it thinks it is— a comically pretentious and totally unputdownable murder mystery

Devastating, all-consuming, a world of its own。

Read this on planes throughout my trip to Europe。 Haven’t read a book this good in so long。 Absolutely obsessed。

Totally enjoyed it even though it could have easily gotten the same 5 stars with quite a few pages less。 😗What I liked about the characters is that they weren’t necessarily likable with questionable morals。 So when I read people‘s reviews complaining about them not being relatable… that’s kinda a good thing don’t ya think?

My new favourite book! Hands down, I’m literally still in awe what an amazing time I had reading this。 So many beautiful quotes Amazing plotLoveable charactersHeartbreak I want to study greek now…

Charlie

Not the most captivating start but once the drama starts it flows so well and you can’t stop reading。 Intriguing and complex albeit largely unlikeable characters which makes it more enjoyable to read。

Major page turner。 The first half (a gripping inverted murder mystery) was so well done and had me completely hooked, but the second half felt more like a bad horror movie where you’re screaming at the characters to NOT GO INTO THE BASEMENT, or in this case lie, commit more crimes, act paranoid, resort to toxic coping strategies, plot more murders, etc。The characters are interesting (not as interesting as they think they are) but truly terrible people。 By the middle, I found them all very unlika Major page turner。 The first half (a gripping inverted murder mystery) was so well done and had me completely hooked, but the second half felt more like a bad horror movie where you’re screaming at the characters to NOT GO INTO THE BASEMENT, or in this case lie, commit more crimes, act paranoid, resort to toxic coping strategies, plot more murders, etc。The characters are interesting (not as interesting as they think they are) but truly terrible people。 By the middle, I found them all very unlikable。 The narrator (Richard) kept claiming these people were all such good friends to him, but I was never convinced。There’s lots of debate on whether the author is celebrating or criticizing this elitist academia vibe。 I think probably both。There are several half baked points of this book that some might chalk up to the author not wanting to give away all the answers, but I felt were just underdeveloped ideas and plot points。 The author was young and might have benefited from a heavier handed editor。Trigger warning: violence, racist + homophobic language, drug use, alcoholism, incest, R word, suicide, murder, and probably plenty more I’m forgetting。 。。。more
